D. David Brown began his undergraduate science education over 40 years ago and has worked extensively in the field of vascular medicine for nearly 30 of those years. His earliest transition from required courses for a degree was into clinical applications that took David into a focused discipline of professional laboratory science that involved human cadavers and anatomical dissection.

It was during this time at The Dallas Institute in Dallas TX, from where he graduated with honors, he was able to make visual contact with arteries and veins not realizing where this knowledge would eventually take him. Being able to actually feel the vessel walls and observe plaque and blood clots provided an exceptional background in understanding how these same vessels would appear when observed on the monitor screen using some of the first commercially produced vascular ultrasound imaging technology in the early 1980’s.

His vascular imaging experience with patient examinations provided the requisite standards to earn his next credential, in Vascular Technology (RVT), by successfully completing the registry exam administered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.  David has also graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Organizational Management from Eastern College in St. David’s, PA

Since acquiring his RVT, David has served as the Technical Director for three separate vascular labs which were awarded recognition for adhering to standards of excellence by The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories (ICAVL). Over the years David has been employed in several area hospitals and in private surgical practices.

The first vascular lab that David won this distinction was in 1992, in a private surgical practice, before many hospital labs in the nation were ICAVL accredited. Exeter Vascular Lab was one of the first 100 vascular labs in the nation to obtain this ICAVL achievement.

As a Vascular Physiologist, David has utilized his diagnostic skills in a multitude of medical settings over the years besides the Vascular Lab. Significant efforts working together with other departments included:
•    Emergency Department
•    Cardiac Catheterization Lab
•    Intensive Care Unit
•    Post-Anesthesia Care Units
•    Operating room with intra-operative surveillance
•    Angiography Suite

Other affiliated medical and health network experience :
•    Private Family Medicine Practices
•    Private Cardiology and Vascular Surgery Practices
•    Private Physician-owned Emergency suites

  • Corporate owned vascular testing and medical intervention clinics
    •    Assisted living and nursing home medical suite and bedside exams

Throughout the course of his career, Dave has continued his medical education and expanded his professional affiliations. In addition to his National and State Board Examination certificates, he has participated in
•    University Medical School programs – research and new modalities
•    Hospital Physician Educational programs – educational lecture series
•    Medical Conference Demonstrations – for physicians and nurses
•    Clinical Preceptor Vascular rotation for university undergraduates

Dave has been a long standing member of The Society of Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) for over 20 years, and has served as a committee member and a past executive officer for the Northeastern Pennsylvania Vascular Chapter which is active in the Lehigh Valley.
